Lacy Marie Crocker has left New Orleans to attend medical school but instead changed to studying fashion. Now returning to her home town she’s opened a shop in the Garden district that mixes a bit of both of her loves, pets and fashion. Her shop features handmade outfits for all types of pets along with gourmet treats.
When Lacy stumbles in on what she thinks is someone breaking into her store one night she immediately calls the police but when they arrive they find a body of a murder victim and Lacy’s prints are the only ones on the murder weapon. In order to clear her name and save her business Lacy begins investigating the crime herself much to the dismay of the detective in charge Jack Oliver.
Cat Got Your Diamonds was a cute cozy mystery that seems to be the first in a new series by Julie Chase. The setting in this one was quite cute with Lazy owning Furry Godmother, the upscale pet boutique in the Garden district. I could just picture this shop belonging in New Orleans in it’s quirky nature.
Lacy did not have a police or investigative background to suddenly be able to solve a crime which normally I’d prefer in a cozy mystery. But that being said Lacy’s investigating style was basically being social and asking around so it didn’t seem too unrealistic for her to be following the clues. She ended up making a fun character to follow with her unique business and interactions.
Overall, a fun new cozy mystery series for the pet lovers out there. At the end of this story there were also a few recipes for the pet treats sold at Lacy’s store.
